I get that “morning” can mean different actual starting times to everyone. I’m a fairly morning oriented person by nature. The time of morning really has nothing to do with these tips I’ve accumulated for you as the days lengthen and we head toward spring. It is about how to start out on the right foot every day with new success habits.
Here’s my question for you. Has 2019 been really different for you than 2018 so far? We are seven weeks in. Just saying.
If the answer is “no”, it’s because there’s been no change. Most of us are predictable in our habits. One key reason for this behavior is that change will cause anxiety. Change also brings freedom, which is one of my most beloved aspects of life.
A morning routine that reinforces the future you want to see is a cornerstone building block for positive change in your life.
Try out these steps. They aren’t hard. They do require discipline on your part like any bold move forward. I am convinced you are worth it.
Sleep. This change actually begins the night before your morning begins. You know most of us in the U.S. don’t get enough sleep. You can change your sleep habits and no one else’s. I challenge you to start here. Good sleep brings these five benefits…and a whole lot more:
Longer life. That should be enough…
Better focus and creativity during your day
Healthy Weight
Better relationships with others
Improved memory
Meditation and Prayer. It’s how I start the day. It clears my mind, focuses me on gratitude and what is most important in my life. Time very well spent. It reminds me of the quote from Eckhart Tolle, “If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is “thank you,” it will be enough.”
Goal Oriented Action. Everyone who knows me knows I’m big on goals and taking action. I know it can feel scary to take that step, make that call, ask your boss for the promotion – the list goes on. It is for me, too. Our fear-based thoughts about taking action and the seconds of initial fear reap benefits that are huge. Why? Most people won’t do these things. You can separate yourself from the herd simply by taking action. If you want more luck, take more chances.
Have a Prioritized Daily Plan. It should be written down. Nothing works better. Stay focused on it. Refer to it often to keep you on track. Move incomplete items forward to the next day. Begin again.
Exercise. Moving our bodies contributes to as many benefits as sleep. Think:
Less stress
Better physical and mental health
Our bodies impact every aspect of our lives. We can’t separate them.
Improves appearance and elevates self-esteem.
Focus on WHO matters. Your family, spouse/partner, and friends. The health of these important relationships is an enormous indicator for how satisfying our lives will be every day.
Feed Your Brain. Reading motivational books or listening to podcasts is a great way to move your mind forward. I can feel the difference it makes to me to be reading something that is uplifting, forward thinking and positive. I love to read a wide variety of material. What’s always in rotation? Something business or motivational related. The difference is astounding.
Give this routine a try. Check out the list again. It’s really simple. Not easy, but simple. It works. I’d like to hear about the differences you see in your life with it.
